Kamala Harris took to the stage in Washington, D.C., Tuesday night, delivering a rally speech where she contrasted her vision for America with what she called Donald Trump’s “revenge agenda.” Speaking in front of the White House, Harris pledged to work diligently for all Americans, highlighting what she described as the stark choice in the 2024 election.
“Within just a few months, either Donald Trump or I will be in the Oval Office,” Harris announced from the Ellipse, with the White House as her backdrop. Describing this as her campaign’s “closing argument,” she emphasized her commitment to lead with a “to-do list” for the American people, rather than Trump’s rumored “enemies list.”
Addressing supporters near the site where Trump’s call to “fight like hell” was issued on January 6, 2021, Harris framed the election as a critical decision between protecting American freedoms or embracing what she argued would be a period of “chaos and division” under Trump’s return.
“Donald Trump wants to weaponize the U.S. military against citizens he views as opponents,” Harris said, pointing to the former president’s rhetoric against what he labels the “enemy from within.” Harris argued this behavior shows a fixation on vengeance rather than a desire to improve Americans’ lives. “This isn’t someone focused on making life better for you,” she continued. “This is a person driven by revenge, resentment, and an unchecked desire for power.”
During her 30-minute speech, Harris highlighted her key policy priorities, contrasting them directly with Trump’s. She underscored her commitment to expanding Medicare, supporting reproductive rights, and fostering national unity—areas where she claims Trump would pursue divisive policies.
“Our democracy thrives not on uniformity but on respectful debate,” Harris noted. “Disagreement is part of being American. A difference of opinion doesn’t make someone ‘the enemy.’ They’re our neighbors, family, and colleagues.”
Reiterating her closing message, she said, “It doesn’t have to be this way.”
Harris’s remarks came 100 days after President Joe Biden announced he wouldn’t seek re-election, and she distanced her platform from the current administration’s legacy. Serving as vice president under Biden, Harris remarked, has been an “honor,” but she clarified that her presidency would focus on current challenges rather than the goals of four years ago.
“My administration will face unique challenges,” Harris said. “Today’s priority is lowering costs, which have stayed high even post-pandemic.”
Just after Harris wrapped up her remarks, President Biden responded to backlash from a recent comment, which some interpreted as labeling Trump’s supporters as “garbage.”
In Tuesday’s speech, Harris emphasized her personal journey and her intent to protect American rights, acknowledging that many Americans still want to know more about her and her plans for the country.
Drawing from her experience as a child of immigrants and a former prosecutor, Harris said she feels an innate duty to protect the public and confront injustice. “Since childhood, I’ve had an instinct to defend those treated unfairly or overlooked,” she shared, crediting her mother with fostering her commitment to holding the powerful accountable.
